Note from the AATOD Hospitality Committee – New York 2018

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing on behalf of the AATOD Hospitality Committee to remind you that registration is open for the next AATOD Conference!

The 2018 Conference will be held in the New York Marriott Marquis in the heart of Times Square from March 10-14, 2018.

Many attractions are close together or within easy reach of public transportation, so you can squeeze a lot into just a few days. Once you’ve landed and checked into our host hotel, the Marriott Marquis, grab a cab, Uber or MetroCard and experience these recommended attractions.

While we know New York City might not be the first place that comes to mind when someone says, “Spring Break,” but there’s no better time to breeze through the Big Apple than in March. That’s the seasonal sweet spot – after winter loosens its icy grip and before summer’s stifling heat and enormous crowds. The warmer weather of spring in NYC puts a bounce in everyones step and creates an energetic atmosphere.

Buy your tickets now and save on hot Broadway Shows and Concerts. You can wait in line at theTKTS booth outside the Marriortt Marquis for same-day discount tickets once you arrive. Or access reliable discounter BroadwayBox.comwith offers up to 50 percent off the face value of ticket for nearly 150 Broadway, Off-Bway shows and concerts. The Conference Planning Committee has even moved the Awards Banquet to Monday night, when theatre in NYC is dark (the term for no shows, since “closed” means the show is gone!).  So, you have more opportunities to explore the city and enJOY all the Conference has to offer.

Spring is in the air, and flowers are already in bloom at New York Botanical Garden’s annual Orchid Show. Get over your winter blues by enjoying the lush scents and sights of one of the best NYC attractions. Come prepared to snap an envy-inducing Instagram shot amongst hundreds of gorgeous exotic plants and over 5,000 show-stopping flowers from 300 species, making the exhibit worth the trip to the Bronx.

March is also Women’s “Herstory” Month were ladies are getting “in formation” by hosting a series of cool events that range from nabbing beauty services at one of the best spas to an all-female jazz festival, comedy shows and more. Of course, these are not exclusive and gentlemen should feel free to partake too.

Your eating choices in New York City are as limitless as your palate. Want a 15-course tasting menu at the latest trendsetting restaurant? A porterhouse for two at an old-timey steakhouse? A plateful of Chinese dumplings? The City has thousands of places featuring cuisines from around the world.

For example, the food is not the only draw at places like Upstairs at The Kimberly Hotel. The best thing about The Kimberly’s 4,000-square-foot outdoor lounge is that its glass roof and walls are retractable, which means patrons can enjoy unseasonable warm spring days. And in case it’s still a shade too chilly, well, the floors are also heated to keep your toes warm. Bulbs strung across the night sky give the place a romantic feel, but the real attraction is the incredible midtown skyline, shown off to its fullest by design firm De-Spec in association with architect Frank Denner.

Remember the registration is open and if you want to take part in our clinic tours on Wednesday you might want to book a late flight on Wednesday night or stay the extra day to experience one more night in NYC.

There’s nothing better than spring in NYC. Be prepared: and allow your Hospitality Committee to guide you through “spring fever.”

With warm regard,

HAYNES and Debbie Witham
