As the 2019 Conference draws closer, we are all getting excited and busy planning the best conference experience for all attendees. I want to share some details with you about our upcoming plenaries. While you are enjoying sunny Florida there will be plenty of educational opportunities to experience and take advantage of and we hope you will be inspired by the national and international speakers we have lined up for this event.
The three Plenary Sessions will cover a range of topics that match up with our conference theme of a continuum of care.
- The first plenary will cover State and National issues related to opioid use disorders. Jim Carroll, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy will be speaking and will be joined by our Director of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Florida, Department of Children and Families, Ute Gazioch.
- The Middle Plenary will focus on the role the judicial and criminal justice systems interact with treatment providers. Paul Samuels (President of the Legal Action Center) will moderate this session which will include Judge Jeri Cohen from Circuit 11 in Miami who will focus on drug courts, Jim Pavletich from the National Commission on Correctional Health Care who will discuss the role of correctional facilities in treating opioid use disorder and Sheriff Dennis Lemma of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office who will discuss the role of Sheriffs in dealing with opioid use disorder.
- To close our great conference, we will have Dr. Gilberto Gerra who is the Director for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and he will tie in the international perspectives during his presentation.
