Dr.
Stavros has been involved in health care delivery system since 1965,
and in the drug abuse field since 1969. He received his M.D. degree
(1962) from Creighton University and interned at Wilford Hall USAF
Hospital. He was stationed at Castle Air Force Base until October
1965, when he was discharged and then set up Family Practice in
Phoenix, AZ.
Dr.
Stavros was a founding physician of CODAC, Community Organization
for Drug Abuse Control, in 1969 and has been active in drug abuse
control since that time. He has been a Medical Director for a number
of substance clinics for the past 30 years. Presently, Dr. Stavros
is owner and Medical Director of six clinics in Arizona.
Dr.
Stavros is the Arizona representative to the American Association
for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence Board of Directors, Chairman
of the Medication Committee and a member of the Policy Committee
of the Board.
He
has spoken and consulted extensively throughout the United States
on drug abuse and aviation safety. Dr. Stavros is a senior medical
examiner for the FAA and continues to perform FAA examinations.
He is a commercial instrument rated multi-engine and helicopter
pilot. He is a retired colonel from the Air National Guard.
Dr.
Stavros and his wife Susan have six children and eight grandchildren.
