Risk Management Strategies in OTPs

Toll-Free Number: 1-866-220-0946

As many AATOD conference participants know, we have offered a special pre-conference training session focusing on workplace law risk management strategies for Opioid Treatment Programs throughout the United States. As many OTP administrators and managers know, employers share exposure to growing workplace law risks, including costly class actions, disruptive employee lawsuits, charges of discrimination or wrongful dismissal, sexual and other harassment and a broad range of other potential costly exposures. From recruitment through hiring and discharge, complex and ever-changing rules apply. Many are counter-intuitive, such as the sometimes conflicting rules governing medical leaves of absence, reasonable accommodation of disabilities and management of deficient performance and attendance. Lawsuits and Department of Labor activity must focus employers on the need to ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, effectively managing day-today issues such as family and medical leaves, and managing employee performance related problms. We have offered this course during our conference as a method of providing the most current information to managers of OTPs throughout the US. Jackson Lewis has offered to present similar sessions at State Association meetings.

Our associates at Jackson Lewis presented this course both at the Las Vegas conference in 2012 and the Philadelphia conference in 2013. They also met with the AATOD Board of Directors to create a toll-free workplace law hotline for AATOD member programs, either through existing state association memberships within the umbrella of AATOD or through individual member programs. The attorneys at Jackson Lewis have been good enough to provide access to this toll-free hotline at no cost to AATOD members as an additional benefit of membership. A number of our colleagues have accessed this toll-free hotline to obtain guidance about risk management and workplace law challenges. Their guidance has been very well received by many AATOD members, and we encourage you to use the toll-free hotline (1-866-220-0946) as you need to, as long as you are a member of AATOD.

We hope that AATOD members take full advantage of this toll-free hotline opportunity. Please let me know if you have any questions. I hope that you find this information useful.
