The PCSS-M Project (Methadone Mentoring) brings the experience and expertise of methadone treatment providers across the country to any OTP that asks for responses to specific clinical questions. Through the Physicians’ Clinical Support System for Methadone (PCSS-M) you can submit a question by email or phone and get an answer from practicing health care providers and educators with expertise in methadone treatment for opioid addiction and/or pain.
The PCSS-M can give you individualized information and materials on clinical questions about:
- Patient assessment and selection
- Initiating and titrating methadone
- Conversion from other opioids
- Dosing and patient monitoring
- Interpreting methadone serum levels
- Drug-drug interactions
- Methadone and cardiac conduction
- Minimizing risk of diversion and overdose
- Management of co-occurring conditions

AATOD initially recommended that ASAM take the leadership role in organizing this mentoring program based on the success of their Buprenorphine Mentoring Program. Dr. Andrew Saxon serves as the Medical Director of this program and we are actively encouraging all OTP medical personnel to utilize this system as a means of ensuring greater patient safety within the OTP setting. This is a CSAT-funded project and one that is supported by our Association, which is part of the objectives in AATOD’s current Five-Year Plan. |
