Peter Coleman is currently Senior Director of Chemical Dependency in the Office of Behavioral Health at NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation, New York City's public health care provider. In this role, Mr. Coleman oversees the multitude of drug and alcohol treatment programs operated by HHC, which includes methadone treatment programs, outpatient services, inpatient detox units, and halfway houses. He has been instrumental in enhancing HHC's methadone programs, restructuring inpatient detox, developing standardized practice guidelines and forms, and adopting the use of innovative approaches and best practices.

Mr. Coleman is the current President of New York State's opioid provider group COMPA , and is the NYS representative to the AATOD Board. He is also a member of the NYS OASAS Governor's Advisory Committee, the Methadone Transformation Advisory Group, the Detox Reform Committee, the APG Steering Committee, and the committee to Transform the Outpatient System of Care. In 2009 Mr. Coleman was awarded the Nywander/Dole Award for significant contributions to the methadone treatment field.

He began his career in chemical dependency in1983 when he was hired as the Administrative Director of a small methadone clinic at Richmond Memorial Hospital. Before making the move to HHC in 1999, he greatly expanded substance abuse services at the hospital. During his career Peter has also been a member of the Staten Island Committee on Alcoholism, the NYC HIV Planning Council, the NYC Buprenorphine Task Force, and Community Board 3.

He earned his Bachelor degree from CUNY Richmond College in 1975, his Masters from CUNY College of Staten Island in 1978, and is a Certified Addiction and Substance Abuse Counselor. Peter is married and has two grown children.
