Steven Smith holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and philosophy from Brescia University and a master’s degree in professional counseling from Western Kentucky University. He is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor – Supervisor (LPCC–S) and a Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor – Clinical Supervisor (LICDC–CS).

Mr. Smith worked in worked in community mental health from 2000 to 2010, with clinical work focusing on children, families, and addicted persons.   He has worked exclusively in medication assisted treatment since 2010.  In that time, he has worked as clinical supervisor at a large CRC Health Group methadone clinic in southeast Indiana and, since 2012, as Clinical Director and then Chief Operating Officer of Sunrise Treatment Center, a multi-site buprenorphine-only opioid treatment organization in Southwest Ohio.

Mr. Smith is a founding member and president of the Ohio Association Treatment of Opioid Dependence (OATOD) and Ohio’s representative to the Board of Directors of the American Association of Treatment of Opioid Dependence (AATOD).  He has been actively involved in the development of Ohio’s various policies surrounding medication assisted treatment, particularly as they pertain to buprenorphine-only OTP’s and Office-Based Opioid Treatment (OBOT).
