The presenter will review rates of chronic pain in patients entering opioid agonist treatment, and will describe the clinical characteristics of patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) and chronic pain, and the challenges reported by their providers. The presenter will discuss the development and testing of an integrated treatment for chronic pain and OUD involving opioid agonist treatment and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The presenter will then review findings from studies on training addiction counselors to assess and address chronic pain using a brief psychosocial intervention and dismantling key elements of CBT so that they can be provided in drop-in groups.
