Dr. Abatemarco’s research is focused on innovative interventions to enhance maternal child health and the health systems that serve mothers and children. She recently complete a federally funded project, Practicing Safety Mindfulness for Mothers in Drug Treatment. This 5-year study showed significant improvements in reducing stress and improving the quality of parenting among new mothers in treatment for opioid use dissorder. She is currently federally funded to study to integration of family members into women’s substance abuse treatment using mindfulness to enhance family support for the mother and baby in recovery. Dr. Abatemarco has also work internationally, in Croatia, on a project to delay alcohol use in youth.
