Dr. Gilberto Gerra, United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime
Dr. Gerra currently serves as the Chief of Drug Prevention and Health Branch, Division for Operations, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Dr. Gerra devotes his entire professional career to the practice, policy and research in addiction medicine in addition to fighting stigma and the discrimination for individuals affected by opioid use disorder. Dr. Gerra also served on the staff of the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre in Parma with more than 20 years of clinical practice in the treatment of substance use disorders and was the Director of the Drug Addiction Treatment Centre. Dr. Gerra has worked closely with AATOD and the World Federation for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder to improve access to treatment and quality of care for opioid use disorder throughout the world. Dr. Gerra has worked tirelessly on behalf of patients and their families to ensure that the member nations of the UN understand the urgent need to treat opioid use disorder with all the tools at our disposal.
