Dr. Fiscella received his BA in psychology from Antioch College, his MD from the Medical College of Virginia, and his MPH degree from the University of Rochester. He is a family physician with credentialing in Addiction Medicine. He is a former Medical Director of an Opioid Treatment Program and has been prescribing buprenorphine since it was FDA approved in 2002. He is experienced in providing primary care and Medication for Addiction Treatment (MAT) to formerly incarcerated persons including those in drug courts and those on probation and parole. He has represented the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) on the Board of Directors of the National Commission on Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) since 2006. He chairs the NCCHC Policy and Research Committee for the NCCHC and chaired the Committee on Revisions of the Standards for Opioid Treatment Programs in Corrections. He was also a member of the ASAM committee who developed MAT tools for drug courts.He assisted with preparing the resource guide for jails developed by the NCCHC and the National Sheriffs Association.
