Addiction Medicine Team Leader

Petra Jacobs, MD, MHS currently works as the Addiction Medicine Team Leader at the Center for the Clinical Trials Network, National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). Her area of focus is the medication and integrated medication & behavioral treatment of patients with opioid use disorders, pain management and HIV. Dr. Jacobs has an original background as an addiction psychiatrist, treating people with alcohol and other substance use disorder in outpatient and inpatient clinics. Her professional interest includes mental health, substance abuse, including HIV/AIDS comorbidities with 20 years developing treatment, research, education, and training initiatives.
Dr. Petra Jacobs previously worked as the Assistant Director for the Center for Clinical Trials Network (CCTN) at NIDA/NIH up to November 2013.Served for 8 years as the CCTN protocol coordinator for three major Clinical Trials Network protocols: Prescription Opioid Addiction Treatment Study, Starting Treatment with Agonist Replacement Therapies, and Brief Strategic Family Therapy.
