“How To” Webinar – Expanding the Use of Mobile Vans
AATOD produced a second webinar in expanding the use of mobile vans connected to Opioid Treatment Programs (OTPs). The first webinar was produced on August 11, 2021, following the release of DEA regulations on July 28, 2021. This webinar provided an update of how programs can develop such mobile units throughout the country.

This webinar aimed to do the following:
- feature speakers, who have been involved in setting up new mobile van units
- provide details on federal guidance in support of developing such van systems;
- discuss the cost of purchasing such vans;
- provide updates on reimbursement mechanisms to support the use of such vans for patients; and
- discuss how such operating vans can work with correctional facilities to expand access to medication-assisted treatment for patients in correctional settings.
Niketa Prince of the DEA was the first speaker and provided a 10-minute overview of DEA approaches in dealing with mobile vans. Nichole Smith of CSAT spoke next about SAMHSA’s approaches to mobile vans and will also speak for 10 minutes. This overview was followed by two experienced administrators, Linda Hurley of CODAC and Rebecca Trott of the Anne Arundel County Department of Health, who talked about their experience in setting up new van operations.
